There are many possibilities for a career path from retail on to the corporate level. There are key elements of success, however there is no single best formula for advancement.


Level 1: Learning Retail

Start your career as a Retail Professional or Advanced Retail Professional

As a Retail Professional or an Advanced Retail Professional you have the opportunity to learn retail in an environment where you can fuse your personal passion for sport and style with your career. Positions include Sales Associate, Merchandiser, Cashier, Stockroom Specialist, and In-Store Trainer, among others. In these positions you are responsible for ensuring consumers receive a leading brand and shopping experience.

Option 1:

  • Customer Service and Wholesale Sales 
    Our customer service team strives for providing the highest level of customer satisfaction through an open dialog between the customer and our sales force. Whereas our wholesale sales team brings new products to millions of consumers through retail clients.
  • Customer Service Representative 
    Proactively develop relationships with customers by accurately responding to inquiries, tracking order issues, and handling customer challenges.
  • Field Account Representative 
    Work in a defined geographic territory, selling the appropriate products to small and medium accounts. Make sales presentations, write orders, and ensure account relationship growth through support and service.


Option 2:

  • Transition to an Internship to a Functional Trainee to landing a Job 
    During an internship you will apply both your university degree and your retail store experience and gain hands on experience. The Functional Trainee Program is for University Graduates and provides the prerequisites for a challenging job at adidas.
  • Internship Positions 
    We invite you to a big intercultural practice run where you can build your strengths, broaden your skills and most likely pursue your passion for sports and lifestyle by co-creating the future within an internship for 3-6 months at one of our locations worldwide.
  • Functional trainee Position 
    The Functional Trainee Program provides the prerequisites for a challenging job in one of the fastest moving industries. In this one and a half year program you rotate through different departments and can max your creative and analytic potential, and have fun while doing so. If your performance during the program is exceptional, we will be delighted to help you secure a challenging entry-level position.

Level 2: Start Managing

Stepping Into Management: Assistant Store Manager
On your path to taking full responsibility of running a store this is your opportunity to prepare yourself by first Stepping Into Management. This level includes a variety of roles in the store, such as Assistant Manager, Associate General Manager or Floor Manager. In such a position you will contribute to store profitability and performance targets. You will coordinate team members and will assume Store Manager responsibilities in the absence of the Store Manager.

Option 1:

  • Retail Merchandising 
    Retail Merchandising determines which products should be placed in our stores. Our goal is to tell product stories, to provide innovations and optimize the assortment corresponding that store‘s consumer needs.
  • Allocation and Replenishment Coordinator (Trade Team) 
    Ensure that initial allocation and replenishment reflect the most commercial product offer as directed by senior members of the team. A key focus of this role will be supporting the team in the production of regular feedback and tracking reports.
  • Merchandising Specialist (Trade Team) 
    Support all reporting and merchandising analysis. Work with the product allocator to ensure the timely delivery of accurately processed stock shipments. Obtain commercial feedback as Store Liaison.
  • Merchandising Specialist (Ranging Team) 
    Provide accurate sales and inventory reports to help identify risks and opportunities. Responsibilities include data analysis for semi-annual Global Merchandising buying and selling meeting.


Option 2:

  • In-Store Communication 
    In-Store Communication highlights key products and drives purchase decisions. For planning purposes, the responsible Global Retail Marketing Team creates a seasonal calendar of all key events.
  • Specialist Seasonal In-Store Communication 
    Adapt marketing concepts for implementation at retail, including activation plan and promotional tools. Develop concepts to support and promote key products at the point of sale to deliver both brand and commercial results.
  • Project Manager Seasonal In-Store Communication 
    Maximize use of global digital assets for seasonal in-store communication.


Option 3:

  • Visual Merchandising 
    As a Visual Merchandiser you will ensure the optimal representation of the brand in our retail stores. You set up windows, displays and merchandising fixtures with a keen sense for visual aesthetic and order.
  • Visual Merchandiser (Preparation) 
    Ensure customized Retail Visual Merchandising policies, processes and guidelines are available for assigned brands in line with seasonal and event calendars.
  • Visual Merchandiser (Implementation) 
    Support the Visual Merchandising Manager to implement visual merchandising policy, processes and guidelines within assigned markets.


Option 3:

  • Human Resources 
    Our Human Resources team strives to create and curate a high-performance organization by recruiting, motivating, evaluating, and developing talent. When moving from Stepping into Management to HR you will drive all elements of HR with retail employees.
  • Market Training Manager 
    Drive the planning and implementation of Foundational, Seasonal and Ad-Hoc retail training initiative and facilitate a training culture within Retail.


Option 4:

  • Wholesale Sales 
    The wholesale sales organization brings new products to millions of consumers through retail clients. Our goal is to increase market share and provide consumers with relevant products.
  • Field Account Representative 
    Work in a defined geographic territory, selling the appropriate products to small and medium accounts. Make sales presentations, write orders, and ensure account relationship growth through support and service.

Level 3: Driving Retail

Join the Retail Management: Store Manager
Store Managers drive profitability by meeting store sales and profit targets, managing resources to provide customers with a leading shopping experience, and driving the execution of established policies, procedures, and initiatives. Store Managers can progress into senior field positions such as District Manager, or into corporate positions similar to those available at the Stepping Into Management level.

Option 1:

  • Retail Operations Leadership Position 
    As a retail operations leader you oversee multiple stores instead of managing people and sales of a single store, and have a close working relationship with other Retail support departments.
  • District Manager 
    Drive your district’s profitability by meeting sales and profit targets, coaching and motivating Store Managers to excel in performance and customer service. Ensure proper execution of established policies, procedures, and directives.
  • Market Head of Store Operations 
    Deliver sustainable and profitable retail market share growth for your Market. Meet sales and profitability targets. Motivate and inspire the field and retail support teams to meet commercial goals and key performance indicators, and build brand equity.


Option 2:

  • Transition to Human Resources 
    Our Human Resources team strives to create and curate a high-performance organization by recruiting, motivating, evaluating, and developing talent. When moving from Retail Management to HR you will drive all elements of HR with retail employees.  
  • Market Training Manager 
    Drive the planning and implementation of foundational, seasonal and ad-hoc retail training initiatives and facilitate a training culture within Retail.
  • Human Resources Specialists/Manager 

  • Provide comprehensive HR service and support for the entire talent value chain, from recruitment and training through compensation, performance management and succession planning. Foster a harmonious culture between management and employees within the organization.




Option 3:

  • Visual Merchandising 
    As a Visual Merchandiser you will ensure the optimal representation of the brand in our retail stores. You set up windows, displays and merchandising fixtures with a keen sense for visual aesthetic and order.
  • Visual Merchandiser (Preparation) 
    Coordinate customized Retail Visual Merchandising policies, processes and guidelines with seasonal calendars.
  • Visual Merchandiser (Implementation) 
    Support the Visual Merchandising Manager in the implementation of visual merchandising policy, processes and guidelines within assigned markets.
  • Visual Merchandising Manager (Preparation) 
    Ensure customized Retail Visual Merchandising policies, processes and guidelines are available for all brands and categories in line with seasonal and event calendars.
  • Visual Merchandising Manager (Implementation) 
    Ensure customized Retail Visual Merchandising policy, processes and guidelines are implemented in assigned markets. Support the evolution of these policies and processes by providing market insights to the Global Retail VM organization. 



Option 4:

  • In-Store Communication 
    In-Store Communication highlights key products and drives purchase decisions. For planning purposes, the responsible Global Retail Marketing Team creates a seasonal calendar of all key events.
  • Project Manager seasonal in-store communication 
    Maximize efficiency in the adaptation and delivery of global digital assets with a focus on seasonal in-store communications.
  • Manager Seasonal In-Store Communication 
    Maximize efficiency in the adaptation and delivery of global digital assets with a focus on seasonal in-store communication management.



Option 5:

  • Retail Merchandising 
    Retail Merchandising determines which products should be placed in our stores. Our goal is to tell product stores, provide innovations and optimize the assortment corresponding that store‘s consumer needs.
  • Merchandiser (Trade Team) 
    Implement all day-to-day department trade by reviewing sales and stock to ensure focus on sales, margin, and terminal stock objectives. Ensure placement of the correct product mix and quantities for the local market.
  • Merchandiser (Ranging Team) 
    Manage the budgeting, sales, margins, terminal stock and gross margins for your category. Ensure placement of the correct product mix and quantities for the local market. 



Option 6:

  • Global Center of Excellence – Sales 
    Do you love retail, but would rather work on it via strategic, project-based work rather than in the field? In Global Retail – Sales, you can put your skills to good use by defining and developing the global standards in adidas retail management.
  • Store Operations Coordinator
    Support retail operations at a regional level, coordinate the Retail Standards Management implementation, and drive global standards and processes.
  • Policy and Planning Specialist 
    Support the development, maintenance and distribution of retail field operations policies and procedures to drive consistent retail operations in line with Global Retail targets.



 

Option 7:

  • Wholesale sales 
    The wholesale sales organization brings new products to millions of consumers through retail clients. Our goal is to increase market share and provide consumers with relevant products.
  • Account executive 
    Drive profitable and sustainable market share growth by developing business within a designated geographical area and servicing the needs of specific accounts.

Level 4: Leading Retail

On top of a Retail career: District Manager 
District Managers drive profitability by meeting sales and profit targets, coaching and motivating Store Managers to excel in performance and customer service. They ensure proper execution of established policies, procedures, and directives. District Managers have direct contact with the Retail Back Office, the support structure of our retail division, which provides many opportunities for lateral transfers into the corporate office.


Option 1:

  • Retail Field Leadership Position to Market Head of Store Operations To Market Retail Director 
    Our Retail Field Leadership Positions are typically referred to as Retail Back Office. At this point of your career you oversee multiple stores or stores in multiple locations, and have a close working relationship with other Retail Back Office functions. 
  • Market Head of Store Operations
    Deliver sustainable and profitable retail market share growth and build brand equity in your market. Meet sales and profitability targets. Motivate and inspire the field and retail back office teams to meet commercial goals and key performance indicators..
  • Market Retail Director
    Drive sustainable and profitable retail growth in your market. Implement the Global Retail Strategy, focusing on the 5 P’s (People, Product, Premises, Processes, Profit) to maximize profitability.



Option 2:

  • Wholesale Sales 
    The wholesale sales organization brings new products to millions of consumers through retail clients. Our goal is to increase market share and provide consumers with relevant products.
  • Key Account Manager 

  • Achieve profitable and sustainable market share growth within key retail accounts by meeting account-specific targets. A Key Account Manager has superb relationship building skills and forms strong partnerships with accounts.



Option 3:

  • Global Center Of Excellence – Sales
    Do you love retail, but would rather work on it via strategic, project-based work rather than in the field? In Global Retail – Sales, you can put your skills to good use by defining and developing the global standards in adidas retail management.
  • Regional Trade And Implementation Manager
    Drive a culture of retail operations excellence in your market and generate performance targets for the businesses. Plan, launch, and execute store-related business processes across brands and channels.
  • Policy And Planning Manager
    Develop new store operations policies, procedures, systems, and tools which will be used in all markets. Manage policy development projects with multiple stakeholders to deliver new and updated policies on time and within agreed objectives.
