Senior Concept + Trend Designer

Purpose

The Senior Concept + Trend Designer role is responsible for researching, identifying and crafting macro-trend direction and seasonal concept-design direction for product, developing an encompassing brand design strategy and presenting across apparel, footwear and accessory categories. This position works closely with the Creative Director, Director of Concept + Trend, and Creative Direction team in developing trend-relevant stories. The Senior Concept + Trend Designer will utilize trend resources, market data, trend-metric technologies, and market research to develop concepts for each season, as well as to collaborate and communicate with Product Creation teams on a regular basis.

Key Accountabilities

  • Understand, interpret and predict macro consumer attitudes, cultural shifts and mindsets relevant to our brand, our industry and our consumer
  • Identify, interpret and predict consumer-centric product trends, especially within performance footwear, activewear, sportswear, streetwear and materials
  • Use relevant and appropriate resources to accurately determine, anticipate and validate current and future trends, competition, retail landscape and cultural drivers
  • Support creative direction and design initiatives through the creation of concepts and trend research
  • Ensure that seasonal design direction is relevant to the market
  • Develop and utilize trend-research methods and resources to efficiently obtain current, reliable and credible information regarding markets, design, consumers, retailer strategy, fashion and fitness industry landscape
  • Communicate design, market and lifestyle trends using graphic presentations, installations and regular trend updates to the Reebok design community and cross-functional product-creation teams
  • Communicate trend and culture intelligence to the Creative Direction team, including movements in the fitness landscape, artists and key influencers, cultural exhibitions, and consumer-lifestyle market
  • Analyse, summarize, integrate and present qualitative trend research and quantitative trend metrics and data
  • Create trend reports and other collateral to substantiate seasonal trend direction
  • Define, translate and curate fashion and culture trends to the brand
  • Develop unorthodox problem-solving practices to conceive and communicate useful and usable concepts that inspire category and brand concepts

  • Present effectively and confidently to all levels of the organization
  • Communicate Concept + Trend updates, project status and/or business results to relevant teams, project members and business partners in a timely and appropriate manner
  • Knowledge of macro, cultural, industry and consumer trends and how they evolve
  • Work independently and perform a variety of tasks with different levels of complexity by developing effective plans and organizing work efficiently
  • Meet design calendar deadlines and deliverables
  • Participate conscientiously and with accountability within team and with cross-functional departments to facilitate effective team and brand outcomes
  • Think and act in a goal-oriented manner, and prioritize and complete tasks in order of importance

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of concept/trend, design and/or branding design experience
  • Advanced level Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign experience
  • Strong negotiating and influencing skills
  • Strong presentation and storytelling skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in fine arts for concept, product or industrial design, and/or fashion marketing or trend forecasting
