Sr. Director Commercial Strategy Europe

Purpose & Overall Relevance for the Organization:

  • Support sustainable net sales and market share growth in commercial channels in Market Europe through the development and implementation of new strategic business concepts
  • Anticipate Market trends and developments and identify strategies to actively shape the marketplace
  • Develop the Commercial Strategy and priorities for Market Europe, within guardrails of the Global Strategic Business Plan and Global Sales Strategy across all brands, channels and clusters/ countries.
  • Drive and support the execution of the Commercial Strategy and its principles by managing key strategic projects and initiatives, and be an active team member in cross functional teams

    Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and drive the execution of the Commercial Strategy across brands, channels, clusters/countries and functions for Market Europe, ensuring a seamless integrated omnichannel approach
  • Lead commercial business planning for the future 2-5-year period, including analysis and modelling (e.g., business simulation, revenue projection, market share development)
  • Manage the portfolio of initiatives, projects and programs for Commercial Europe for constant improvement of the business set-up of all Commercial channels across Market Europe
  • Identify new business opportunities through discussion with the SVP Commercial and the senior leadership team Europe. Drive and lead all benchmarking activities (processes, technologies etc.) and connect with external stakeholders (within and outside our industry)
  • Closely collaborate with Business Development and Market Intelligence Team to gather relevant insights from customer, consumer, marketplace, channels and geographies
  • Act as a key liaison towards Market Europe Business Development and various departments of Global Sales
  • Play an active role in global project teams of cross functional projects when relevant
  • Lead team and foster performance culture within the team developing and retaining key talents (tbc)
  • Align strategic priorities across management team and support global priorities as needed

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Proven experience developing and executing long- and short-term strategies/ strategic plans based on thorough understanding of market conditions and trends
  • Strong communication skills – ability to communicate strategies to executive level management. Excellence in developing logical, simple to understand and convincing presentations
  • Mature and credible interpersonal skills (e.g. influencing, networking, negotiation skills) – able to quickly build trust among all management levels and act as a galvanizer and influencer across the organization
  • Strong strategic acting and high visionary thinking as well as operational skills
  • High degree of commercial and business acumen knowledge
  • Ability to apply a strategic mindset and curiosity to embrace innovation and marketplace trends and reflect them into future business opportunities for the business
  • Ability to define strategic levers and translate them into operational plans
  • Business Manager with proven track record of successfully managing an operational team/ organization across a broad cross-section of relevant business functions; high degree of business acumen
  • Strong leadership and managerial skills
  • Proven methodological skills (e.g. Business planning, strategic development)
  • Mental flexibility, adaptability, initiative and determination
  • Fluent in written and spoken English is a must. Skills and abilities in other language are a benefit

    Requisite Education and Experience / Minimum Qualifications:

  • Degree in business administration or similar subject
  • Minimum 15 years of general business experience – in sporting goods/consumer goods industry/retail or related management consulting field, thereof:
  • min 10 years of relevant experience in in different Sales functions, e.g. Field, Key Account, Specialists etc., ideally in a multi-country environment like Europe
  • min 8 years of leadership experience in an international environment, managing diverse teams
  • Cross functional experience ideally with finance/operations / marketing / sales / consulting
