Purpose (Brief summary of why role exists):
The primary responsibility of this position is to partner cross-functionally with Design, Product, and Marketing to execute superior brand packaging designs across all customer touch-points. This position will Design and work closely with Design Agencies and the Director, Visual Merchandising to ensure that all packaging meets all strategic and marketing brand objectives ensuring brand programs are competitive and meet global brand benchmarks. Core to this role is the project management for the development of design, copy, materials, and costs.
Key Accountabilities (List the 5-10 major areas of responsibility for role):
Create effective packaging designs by working directly with product and marketing teams to develop compelling solutions including action depictions that explain technology and encourage try-on.
Ability to influence during conceptual meetings with internal and external teams by recommending packaging materials and design aspects based on a product's usage, marketing and shipping requirements.
Work collaboratively with Marketing and Product Development/ Sourcing teams to design and execute packaging that continues the consumer journey and creates a compelling “out of box experience” that builds brand loyalty.
Manage the key relationships with outside design agencies on a project specific basis. Monitor agency performance and ensure that projects are executed on time and on budget. Identify needed areas of improvement, as well as successes in improving costs and productivity.
Proactively initiate the packaging process each season with stakeholders to update all brand and licensed packaging needs based on the seasonal calendar and packaging timelines. Investigate and procure all data required to develop the design.
Maintain Packaging Design and Production Processes and Procedures by establishing all design and production requirements, standards, timing and action, and approval process (budget, scheduling, time and action plans, layout reviews, internal proofing, and final project approvals).
Track, manage and provide reports on all packaging projects. Maintain accurate overviews of all packaging collateral in order to maintain consistency and ensure adherence to brand strategy.
Research Packaging Trends and suggest innovative improvements to design or process elements to elevate brand packaging.
Work with materials team on approvals of all brand standards and positioning (materials, pricing, brand positioning). Set and communicate trend vision and standards on all national brand packaging.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Proficiency in up-to-date design programs (Adobe ESS/Mac OSX environment, InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop).
Keen understanding of the printing process relating to packaging.
Excellent communication skills.
Strong project management skills and organizational skills and ability to multitask.
Qualifications (Minimum required education and experience):
BFA in Design or Packaging Design.
A minimum of 3 years design experience preferably in package design.
Experience working with agencies, suppliers, printers, and generating quotes as well as managing multiple projects at once.
Experience working with logos, brands, and marketing.
Experience with 3D rendering a plus.
