Director Digital Strategy

Purpose & Overall Relevance for the Organization:

As a Director Digital Strategy in adidas Digital and China Digital Hub you are contributing to the creation and execution of the China Digital Hub strategy in cooperation with the (Global) Digital and China teams. You are accountable for high impact strategic initiatives of the Digital Hub Portfolio. Strategic initiatives are mainly derived from the digital strategy and change management plan. Your task is to turn these initiatives into actionable reality through orchestrating the delivery of the end-to-end landscape of Digital. This includes leading alignment across the Digital stakeholder network and driving a wider transformation of the company towards a more digital culture and mindset.

  1. Key Responsibilities

Scope: Accountable for co-development and orchestration of critical initiatives to deliver against strategic goals of the China Digital Hub

  1. Strategy Creation
  • Together with Digital Senior Management and China Senior Management, contribute to shaping the overarching Digital Strategy, evolving and planning the core levers to achieve brand and sales objectives.
  • Drive the positioning of digital within the company’s wider strategic direction and priorities.
  • Identify strategic innovation opportunities and propose possible ways to capitalize on them.
  1. Strategy Execution
  • Drive the realization of the Digital Strategy by leading the overall portfolio of strategic initiatives.
  • Drive business development activities such as identification and prioritization of opportunities. Take responsibility from concept development and implementation until handover to business for steady state operations.
  • Support direct program management for cross-functional initiatives in leading towards business goals. Drive for results and monitor progress in achieving goals.
  • Monitor the performance of strategic initiatives within your scope of responsibility. Identify deviations from targets and drive necessary changes.
  1. Change Management
  • Enable strategy execution by developing and spearheading key change initiatives.
  • Monitor and evaluate changes implemented. Provide formal, continuous communication with leadership stakeholders and Digital community on success metrics.
  • Evolve existing frameworks based on learnings during implementation.
  1. Communication
  • Develop key strategy updates for internal and external audiences, tailoring content and messaging by audience.
  • Manage community engagement through internal collaboration tools.
  • Support ongoing communication by preparing regular huddles and celebrating success stories in collaboration with key Digital stakeholders.
  • Support in the validation of external communication stories.
  1. People 2020
  • Design, implement and manage the Digital Talent Program.
  • Co-create and support implementation of on-going employer brand campaign to position adidas as a digital employer of choice.
  • Co-design approach for learning and training.
  • Contribute to annual Digital Experience Week and regular Digital Speaker Series.
  1. Ad-hoc Transformation projects
  • Lead change activities and ad-hoc transformation projects to guarantee the alignment of organization culture and strategy.
  1. People Management
  • Build the appropriate structure to be able to manage the respective organization effectively, identify and develop the future talents and create realistic succession scenarios for key positions.
  • Ensure appropriate leadership skills are present at every level by creating a motivational and supportive work environment in which employees are coached, trained and provided with career opportunities through development.
  • Continuously monitor and evaluate team workload and organizational efficiency with the support of data and team feedback and make appropriate changes in order to meet business needs.
  • Provide team members/direct reports with clear direction and targets that are aligned with business needs and DBC objectives.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

       Education & Experience

  • Ideally Master degree with focus on Business Administration, Communication or IT or related areas, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 10+ years of in-depth experience related to strategic projects management or similar topics – experience in management consulting or in-house strategy function a plus
  • 6-8 years of professional experience in the digital ecosystem environment
  • Experience in Finance is a plus
  • Experience working with stakeholders at various seniority levels as well as subject matter experts across various functions (Developers, business stakeholders, product and marketing teams, etc.)
  • 3+ years of experience in leading a team
  • Soft-Skills
  • Very good communication skills, especially when interacting with different levels of business
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with different international cultures
  • Ability to handle ambiguity and untangle complex situations into actionable activities
  • Distinctive strategic mindset and ability to prioritize and delegate high numbers of tasks with varying workload and importance
  • Solutions-oriented approach and entrepreneurial mindset
  • Good numerical and analytical skills
  • Highly developed leadership skills are required
  • Hard-Skills
  • Strong MS-Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to travel, domestic or international, as required
  • In-depth understanding of China digital ecosystems, architecture, analytics and relevant enablers
  • Fluent English both verbally and written.  Chinese mandarin is a plus.
