Position Summary

The Designer I, Footwear for the Delta business unit is responsible for researching trends, ideation of new concepts and designing compelling footwear product and process that challenge the status quo in the industry. This individual will be challenged with identifying new or innovative concepts, materials, or manufacturing processes that could improve the inline product and/or the global Reebok brand development. This designer will drive creative operations and complex design project management.  He/she will also be a key liaison with other design departments (graphics, apparel etc.) and cross-functionally with other business units.

Key Accountabilities

Design new footwear products (upper and tooling), components or innovate existing footwear parts and create technical drawings so they can be manufactured

Design function, appropriate aesthetics and technology into product while still designing to cost and following the category strategy

Sketch product designs and produce line art to communicate design concepts, including multiple views and details as necessary

Work alongside counterparts in design, product marketing, development, brand marketing, and brand strategy to support the Innovation team initiatives

Conceptualize and develop new and progressive presentation formats

Partner with Design Operations to translate creative vision into executable projects 

Participate in any key strategy development and associated implementations

Create design / concept boards and supporting research to communicate innovation initiatives

Actively run idea generation and collection initiatives

Keep abreast of global socio/economic climate as it pertains to Reeboks innovation opportunities

Support category Directors to execute against their vision

Create supporting artwork that illustrate design concepts and tell stories to the Marketing, Merchandising and Sales teams.

Work with the category to understand market needs and design to product briefs.

Select color, materials and components used in product designs and understand the impact of choices on costing and overall design aesthetic

Create tech packs and other materials to hand-off to development for sample manufacturing

Attend and contribute in construction and prototype review sessions

Meet calendar deadlines and deliverables

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

Strong communication, organizational and presentation skills;  ability to receive design critique and respond with multiple solutions

Ability to illustrate designs & concepts in both hand sketch and alternate rendering forms

Visualization skills to express ideas in both 2D and 3D including styling the entire shoe

Knowledge of technical processes and ability to address lasts, patters, blueprints and molds at a general level

Strong team player as well as ability to work independently

Ability to respond quickly to multiple projects with strong time management skills

Understanding of materials and their application to footwear designs; understanding of material development processes and footwear construction.

Knowledge of color mixing, color compatibility, and color placement

Strong awareness of material trends and usage

Strong communication, organizational and presentation skills

Experience in process design and project management

Strong team player as well as ability to work independently

Ability to respond quickly to multiple projects with strong time management skills

Qualifications (Minimum required education and experience):

2-3+ years of footwear design experience

Advanced level Adobe Illustrator; Photoshop; 3D software; InDesign; other presentation/multimedia tools a plus.

Bachelor’s degree in product, industrial, fashion, automotive or interior design.

Master’s degree or certificate in Design Management a plus.
